Me Made Wardrobe Plans – Fall 2024
Hello, Snazzie People,
For the past few years, I have tried to make some of my own clothes for each season. I thought I would bring you along and share some of my plans with you.
All of my plans are always tentative. Sometimes I just run out of time, sometimes things don’t work out, and sometimes I just run out of steam.
Currently, I have stayed pretty motivated even though a few of my projects are going to require some daring pattern hacks. I have a lot of items planned, so some of them may start creeping into my winter plans. As long as I get everything made before it goes out of style, right?
Let me tell you what I have planned, why I want to make them, and the status of each.
Here is a photo of my to-do, no scratch that, my want-to-do board. The last thing I want to do is make sewing for myself feel like a chore. Although, let’s get real, even the most enthusiastic sewists sometimes feel the need to push themselves to finish a project.
Before we get to what’s on the board, let’s start with what I’ve already done.
Completed Items
Button-Up Shirts – Simplicity S1538
I made two chambray shirts and a burgundy plaid flannel using this pattern. All of which I know I’ll be able to wear over several seasons and for years to come.
Johnny Collar Top – McCall’s M8240
I have had this pattern for several years and have, successfully, made three different tops with it. I specified successfully because there were two complete failures with this pattern, but I just couldn’t let it go.
For my fall wardrobe, I made View C in a green French terry. This is going to be the perfect alternative to a light sweatshirt.
Knit Blazer – Butterick B5926
I have had this pattern for a long time. I actually bought it to make a costume piece for my daughter. I made it using a heavy-weight, gray, striped polyester, and I have to admit, it turned out good.
Works In Progress
Green Button-Up Shirt – Butterick B6852
I am making this out of green satin. Green is a popular color this Fall, and I saw several versions of silky or green button-up blouses.
Floral Button-Up Shirt – Simplicity S3002
I’m using this pattern to sew a blouse similar to a top I saw on Loft.com called the peacock pocket blouse. Mine will be made with a floral fabric and a royal blue contrasting fabric. The pattern doesn’t include pockets, but the inspiration blouse does, so I plan to add them. The inspiration blouse also has embroidery or printed accents on the contrasting fabric. I’m not sure what I will do about that yet. I may try using some of those decorative stitches on my little sewing machine that I never use.
Tweed and Denim Jacket – Wardrobe By Me Canvas Jacket
This project is going to be ambitious. This is another sew-the-look. This time, inspired by Ann Taylor. They have a tweed jacket with denim trim and fringe that I want to try to recreate. I think I have a good plan in place, and I already have everything cut out. Wish me luck!
Knit Jacket – Love Notions Arlington Sweater
Ok, this pattern is not a jacket, but because of the mock turtle neck, I thought it was the perfect pattern to hack and try to recreate a jacket I saw on the Ann Taylor website at the end of summer.
Not Yet Started
Denim Blazer – Simplicity S8844
I love blazers and denim and denim blazers are having a moment right now so I figured this unlined blazer pattern would be perfect for that.
Embroidered Denim Bomber Jacket – Itch to Stitch Causeway Bomber Jacket
I have had this plan in my head for a long time, but I waited for the fabric to either go on sale or have a coupon available. A couple of weeks ago, I was finally able to purchase the fabric. Unfortunately, this make may not get done until it’s too cold, but it’ll be ready for me in the spring.
Silver Gray Trench Coat – Vogue V9367
This is another ambitious make, and I may run out of steam before I get to it this year but this is another make that I’ll be able to wear in the spring, and a classic trench coat is a great staple for any wardrobe.
This is my list for my Fall wardrobe sewing plans. Please stay tuned for blog posts about each of these projects. I’ll post either pattern reviews or take you along on my pattern-hacking adventures.
I also plan to make my own jeans and pants eventually as well as athletic wear, so stay tuned for that.
