Cup Cozy From Shirt Cuff – Upcycle Tutorial
Hello, Snazzie People,
In this tutorial, I’m going to show you a fun way to repurpose a shirt cuff. We are going to make a cup cozy or cup sleeve.
These are similar to the paper cuff sleeves you get when you buy a hot beverage. The great thing about this cup cozy is that it’s not only upcycled but reusable and washable.
These cup cozies are also great to have when you have guests over and you want to make everyone’s cup. Instead of using a marker, pull out these handmade cup cozies and show off your skills!
Before we get started, if you would like to see how to turn a shirt cuff into a pencil holder see this post: Upcycled Shirt Cuff Notebook Pencil Holder – Tutorial

Materials
- 1 Shirt Cuff
- 1 Button – Larger than the buttonhole of the shirt cuff to ensure it doesn’t slip through the buttonhole.
- 3″ – 4″ Narrow Elastic
Tutorial
1. Press the cuff flat to remove any creases
2. Cut elastic. Note: The length of the shirt cuff and the stretch of the elastic will determine the amount of elastic you may need. In this tutorial, I’m using 4″.
3. Hand or machine sew the ends of the elastic together
4. Hand sew the end of the elastic to the button making sure it’s secure and can withstand stretching
5. Slip the elastic through the buttonhole on the cuff. Make sure the button is on the outside.6. Sew the elastic to the end of the cuff using a narrow stitch.
That’s it! Now you can wrap your cup cozy around a cup and secure it by hooking the elastic to the shirt cuff buttons.
As I’m sure you are aware, not all cups or cuffs are the same size so you may need to adjust the length of the elastic accordingly.
You may want to move or add buttons to adjust the cozy according to the size of the cup you are using.
Here I added a button I took off the shirt.
Is your cuff too long or do you want it to have more of a curve? You can try adding a dart or pleat. Just keep in mind that this may also add bulk to the cup cozy. Here’s one I experimented with.
These cup cozies are fun and easy to make. They’re great for on-the-go. You can keep them in your purse or bag or your glove box. They also make a great gift for a coffee lover in your life.
So what do you think? Is this something you will try making?
