Christmas Ornament Coaster Sewing Tutorial
The holiday season is the perfect time to create handmade gifts and festive décor that add a personal touch to your home. In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to make adorable Christmas Ornament Coasters that are perfect for adding some seasonal cheer to any room. With a free downloadable pattern and easy-to-follow steps, you’ll be able to craft these charming coasters in no time. Whether you’re making them for gifts or simply to enjoy yourself, these coasters are sure to be a hit this Christmas!
Materials:
- Free PDF Pattern
- Fusible fleece such as Pellon 987F Fusible Fleece
- Body Fabric
- Top Fabric
- Optional: Metallic Thread for top-stitching
Step 1: Using the pattern pieces provided in the free download, cut out the Body front and back fabric, Top fabric, and 2 fusible fleece pieces.
Step 2: Using the manufacturer’s instructions, fuse the fusible fleece to the wrong side of the Body front and back pieces. Make sure to leave a 1/4” between the edges of the fabric and the fleece.
Step 3: Fold the Top piece in half, wrong sides together and stitch down each side with a 1/4” seam allowance.
Step 4: Trim the seam allowance corners of the Top.
Step 5: Turn the Top right side out and carefully push out the corners using a point-turning tool or a tool of your choice. Press
Step 6: Find the center of the Top and clip to mark.
Step 7: Find the center of the Body Front top and clip to mark.
Step 8: Place the Top piece on the top of the Body Front, right sides together, matching centers.
Step 9: Stitch the Top to the Body Front just inside of a 1/4” seam allowance.
Step 10: Place the other Body piece on top of the first Body piece, right sides together. If needed, use clips or pins to secure the pieces together.
Step 11: Ensure that you leave an opening at the top of the Christmas Ornament Coaster large enough to turn the Christmas Ornament Coaster right side out. Stitch around the outside of the Christmas Ornament Coaster pieces with a 1/4” seam allowance.
Step 12: Turn the Christmas Ornament Coaster right side out. Using a point turner or another tool, carefully push the sides out, making sure they are smooth.
Step 13. Push in the seam allowance on the opening and press
Step 14: Topstitch around the outside of the Christmas Ornament Coaster at less than 1/4”. You could optionally use metallic thread for the top-stitching
Tip: If you have an edge stitching foot or a seam guide, you could use it here for more even top-stitching.
